Otimismo! Bora tentar?

October 31st, 2009 | Category: Personal

3- Irradie amor, carinho e simpatia.

Quidam – My small review.

October 25th, 2009 | Category: Personal

I guess one word can describe Quidam:  Magical.

First, let me tell what the show is all about.

A nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. This is the “quidam” that Cirque du Soleil is celebrating.

A young girl fumes; she has already seen everything there is to see, and her world has lost all meaning. Her anger shatters her little world, and she finds herself in the universe of Quidam. She is joined by a joyful companion as well as another character, more mysterious, who will attempt to seduce her with the marvelous, the unsettling, and the terrifying.

Well my review about it is simple! Amazing by all means!!! Last time I’ve seen something so beautiful was back on 2000 when the Lord of the Dance came here.

One thing i was disappointed… no trapezists. When i came into the tend and i saw the total height of it my thought was exactly that.  (Yes, I haven’t watched Quidan till the day of the show cause I didn’t want to spoil the show)

The acts:

It all starts with the girl, Zoé. Her parents seems too busy to pay attention to her and she feels frustrated. Why? Let’s see the reasons …

Lost behind his newspaper, ensconced in his den, Father will eventually open his eyes to find himself among his family and loved ones once again.

Feeling alienated, Mother will soon rediscover the intense feeling of being alive through pain and courage, play and love.

But then a door opens. Through that door she sees the Target. The Target chooses to live in empty space, present and absent at the same time, a companion to the lost girl for a little while.

And then the 1st act occurs.

~ The German Wheel

A gymnastic exercise hailing from Germany, the German wheel is taken to a whole new level in Quidam. The artist becomes a human spoke as he spins, turns, twists and maneuvers the wheel, performing gravity-defying somersaults and acrobatics.

In my words you can say I couldn’t blink. My eyes couldn’t believe I was actually watching that. It was too perfect! The first time I watched the wheel was on La Nouba (dvd). Awesome! Still the audience was a little bit shy… Not my claps, until…

~ Diabolos

The diabolo, or Chinese yo-yo, is a child’s game that the Chinese have evolved into an art form. Four young Chinese performers, each holding two sticks linked by a string on which a wooden spool is juggled, tossed and balanced, try to outdo each other in this stunning game of dexterity and ingenuity. This act won the Gold Medal at the 1995 Festival du Cirque de Demain in Paris.

Oh yes! That was it! I was a huge fan of these girls for a long time! (Also La Nouba dvd) And then the audience went into frenzy! That was the explosion to it… when they came on and they start doing their show all you can hear was “ohhhhh”, whistles and a huge… a huge amount of claps! And believe me, they deserve it… They showed perfection on every little detail, movement and synchronism.

~ The Clown

Mark clown brings a contemporary vision of clowning. With subversive, crazy audience participation numbers, Mark tells his own story, bringing to Quidam the joyful, burlesque, and liberated language of clown. This colorful, brash, and crazy world reminds us that the circus is forever a universal spectacle.

Well, can I say something here? Don’t you ever buy Tapis Rouge. EVER! lol If you want to keep you away from passing through a huge  amount of shame, don’t!

The Clown pick up a blond girl from the audience. (Tapis Rouge) The direction where I was in the tend was directly to the middle of the stage but on the 1st block behind Tapis Rouge. Sector 200. In the middle of it. So from there I saw she was red as a tomato!

On his act you need to imagine things. Pretend all things. So he pretended to be in his car, he pick up his girl to go out to somewhere with her. If i describe it, believe it, it won’t be funny and it won’t make you laugh your ass out as i did when i saw him pissed cause she wasn’t getting on the mood to do things he wanted. And more she did it different from what he wanted more funny it was.  So, he picked her up and took her to see the moon… and start flirting with her.. and OMG everyone was peeing in their pants already. She wasn’t getting in the mood! He set on her lap, hugged her and nothing! Then he asked for a kiss, and she said no… again, and no… he asks helps for the audience. And everyone “Awwwwwww”…  at the end he trick her… he asks for a kiss on his cheek he turns his head and gives her a small kiss! ahahahahahah The audience was in tears already! Applauded with glory!! Oh hell yes! He deserve it!

~ Aerial Contortion in Red Silk

Intensity, power and grace combine a young woman becomes one with the column of red fabric which supports and cradles her. Set to haunting music, contortionist and cloth intertwine, separate and embrace again. The translucent fabric occasionally hugs the body of the performer, creating a stunning effect

She was so perfect and she passed so much passion that you couldn’t hear one little small sound around anywhere. The tend was on complete silence (more then usual). She passed the pain, passion and death at the same time. No one did one move till she ended her performance and I could blink again and back to the real world for a second. That was the most intense thing I’ve ever seen…

30 minutes break (Things you don’t see while you watch the dvd)

~ Spanish Webs

Breaking with tradition, Quidam presents the Spanish web as a group act. Artists fly over the stage, attached to a specially designed conveyer called a telepheric. Suddenly, time stands still as the acrobats, in turn or as a group, drop into the void, stopped only by the ropes looped around their waists or ankles.

Five people on each rope. One thing, above all of course, that caught my eye was that the one each border came closer to the audience head they were doing their show above their heads. HA! I wanted to be beneath them… imagine! SO MUCH COOLER!! Someone almost dropping under your head! ahahahah Oh man!!

~ The Clown

Ok this is the maximum of all things! Once again he takes two people out of Tapis Rouge. A girl ( I will call her A) and a guy ( I will call him B). He run through and get one more from the “normal” audience. Some guy with glasses ( I will call him C) and again some older guy with a beer belly ( I will call him The Director). The Clown’s plan is to shoot a scene where the girl is in love with a guy (lover). Then her boyfriend knocks on the door and find them kissing and making out and he shoot the lover and the girl watch everything then she drink some poison and dies. All this demands a Director of the movie and he (the clown) is the camera man.

Ok. I explained the scene and the people involved.  My belly never hurted so much in my life before this. I was already a HUGE fan of the clown before of his first act… after this? I will follow him to hell! ahahahahahahah

So he explained to us and the A,B,C and The Direction what each needed to do. We all got it the picture what he wanted… B could do what he wanted… but when the Clown demanded he actually need to throw the girl on the floor pretending to make out with her we were already dying in pain of laugh. A was shy as hell! She was wearing a dress which didn’t make things better for her… So A and B after a while trying they did what he wanted. C ALWAYS forgot to open the door. He just pass through it. So he had to cut the scene and start over! The only one that did exactly good what he was supposed to do was The Direction. The older man so wasssssssss so funny! OMG! He got into it… was perfect! He was applauded every time he did it right! Man it was hilarious! After they all did what they were supposed to .. all five together on stage they were applauded as one of the best acts in Quidam.

~ Aerial Hoops

In hoops suspended above the stage, the performers pivot and twirl through the air, at times solo and at times in unison, performing stunning feats of grace and dexterity.

They were amazing! When you look at her it seems they have no spine AND they are light as a feather. They spin was so perfect and it seems they weren’t doing any afford to do all that… oO

~ Skipping Ropes

Do you remember the joy you felt as a child skipping rope with your friends? Drawing its inspiration from dance, acrobatics and the art of manipulation, Cirque du Soleil has transformed this familiar child’s game into a choreographic feat. As the ropes beat time, a group of 20 acrobats, endowed with exceptional co-ordination and rhythm, perform a steady stream of solo, duo and group jumps and figures.

We call it here: pular-corda. Right. It’s not as easy as you might think. The chinese guy was insane! The difficulty was worse every time! More and more… with more people… Amazing!!!

~ Banquine

The banquine act showcases the amazing agility of the human body. Fifteen artists perform spectacular sequences of acrobatics and human pyramids, astounding audiences with their perfectly synchronized movements. Banquine is an Italian acrobatic tradition, with origins that date back to the Middle Ages. This breathtaking act won a Golden Clown at the International Monte Carlo Circus Festival in 1999.

The two girls on this act ( the rest was all guys) they look like a toy. You know when you can do whatever you want with a doll? That was the exact sensation to us. Not only as flexible… they were weightless! Also as the one above the difficulty was getting worse as the act was getting throught.

~ Statue – La Vision

Never losing contact, two strong, flexible performers move almost imperceptibly, assuming positions impossible without an impeccable sense of balance. The artists call on their sensitivity and powers of concentration in their quest for perfect harmony. Their act is testimony to the natural beauty of the human body.

Ok now I’m speechless. As the girl with the Red Silk the tend once again was a complete silence… watching every slow movement this couple was doing. You could see every single perfect movement made by them. Slowly and strong but still so gentle. Applauded, also, as one of the best act in Quidam.

~ Cloud Swing

Trapeze and Spanish web techniques combine in the unique and daring Cloud Swing. The performer launches herself into a series of spectacular acrobatics that send her diving and twisting high above the stage.

She was rough. Sometime you feel like she was going to throw herself into the audience. Very presence also…. perfect!

And the end was close… bahhh i wanted more =/

One thing i thought amazing is the change of the acts. That’s a perfect mark Cirque du Soleil has. Something always gets your attention and when you see it, it’s gone and the other is starting.

By all means if Cirque du Soleil comes here again I’ll go again. It’s something that deserve every single penny you spent on!

Notes.

October 05th, 2009 | Category: Personal

For two days and two nights, I sat at my door. Watching the shifting clouds, I realised though I lived here a long time, I’d never really looked at the desert. Before, when I saw a mountain, I wanted to know what lay behind. But not any more. Fate made me an orphan. Being an orphan, I always had to fend for myself. I learned the best way to avoid rejection is to reject others first. This is why I’ve never returned home. It wasn’t bad there. But what have I to go back for? I was born under the influence of a total eclipse. Love was destined to be out of reach. That night, I suddenly needed a drink. I finished the bottle of magic wine. I carried on with business as usual. By the looks of you, I’d say you’re about 27. In the past 27 years, there must be people you wish you had never laid eyes on.  Maybe they hurt you. Maybe you even considered killing them. But you didn’t have the nerve. Actually killing is no big deal.  No sweat at all. Now I have a friend who knows some martial arts. He’s a little down on his luck these days. For a small fee, he’ll be happy to rid you of that person. Think about it. But be quick.  If you wait… When work was not busy I’d look at Mountain. I remembered a man was waiting for me there. That magic wine was just a joke he played on me. The more you try to forget, the better you’ll remember. People say when you can’t have what you want, the best you can do is not to forget. I don’t know why I have these recurring dreams. I left the desert soon afterwards…
